Why Ukrainian science

Talent is not lost — only under-supported

Ukraine has a long-standing tradition of scientific and educational excellence: the birthplace of globally recognised institutions in mathematics, physics, engineering, and medicine, and pioneering contributions such as continental Europe’s first electronic computer. Yet the war and underfunding threaten to disconnect a generation from international science. LinkUA counters that isolation by creating structured, long-term pathways for Ukrainian academics to remain active, visible, and supported in global research networks.

Twinned since June 2022 under a five-year “Co-supervision Research Fellowship Program”, coordinated by Cormack Consultancy Group with support from Universities UK International, the President of Ukraine’s Fund for Education, Science, and Sports, and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Impact so far

18 SumDU researchers took part on UoL campus and 30 researchers took part online in the program “Collaboration for Digitalisation and Digital Transformation of Ukraine” in 2023.
29 Ukrainian researchers visited UoL in 2024, establishing collaborations across multiple schools and departments.
New research themes, joint publications, and funding applications are actively developed.
A dedicated PhD co-supervision programme provides critical support for Ukrainian doctoral candidates and Habilitation students.
