The grants are for early-career researchers, particularly PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, who are looking to take the next step in their research career. support short research visits, training opportunities, or conference travel that help researchers gain new skills or experience. Aim of the grant is to support career development, build confidence, and help researchers establish new collaborations or directions, especially at key transition points in their careers. To celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2023, Journal of Experimental Biology launched two new grants to support junior faculty staff: Research Partnership Kickstart Travel Grants and Early-Career Researcher (ECR) Visiting Fellowships.
Research Partnership Kickstart Travel Grants aim to support junior faculty staff (e.g. Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Group Leader, Principal Investigator) to travel to another institution (University, Research Centre, Non-Governmental Organisation or Industry Partner Organisation) to initiate a new research collaboration and develop, write and submit a major grant application for collaborative research.
Each grant is a maximum of £3,000 (or currency equivalent) and can be used towards travel to the collaborator’s institution, and accommodation and subsistence during the visit.
